Setting up a pet care business has always been something that I’ve wanted to do but, for various reasons, I never went ahead and actually planned anything.
Then in June 2015, I was told that I, and the rest of my colleagues, were going to be made redundant. The first thing that went through my head was panic about how I was going to find another job, earn as much as I was on and pay the bills. But as all the negative thoughts subsided, I realised that I didn’t want to find another job, I wanted to be my own boss and set my own path.
It all sounds so easy and to some extent it is, but it has been and will continue to be very hard work. If anyone is looking to set up their own pet care business, I would recommend researching other competitors nearby and seeing what they offer. The trick is to offer something different, this is why I chose to offer accompanied walking. Not only does it benefit the dog to be walked by it’s owner, it also means the owner feels more confident as there is someone else to help out or lend an extra pair of hands.
